Police Blotter: Robbery Suspects Arrested

According to a San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department news release, on Sunday, September 6, 2009 at about 7:20 PM, two black male juveniles approach two other juveniles as they were skateboarding near the Highland Sam J. Racadio Library & Environmental Learning Center. The suspects asked the victims if they were "gang bangers" and the victims responded they are not. The two suspects then demanded the victims' property. The victims, who are afraid for their safety, gave the suspects two iPods and a wallet.

The juveniles reported the robbery to the Highland Police Department and through an investigation, the suspects were located. The two juvenile victims were able to positively identify the suspects as the ones who robbed them. Detectives were able to recover one of the iPods but have not recovered the other iPod nor the wallet.

The two juvenile suspects were arrested and booked into Juvenile Hall. Police Blotter: Checkpoint Nets One Suspected DUI

According to a San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department news release, on the evening of Saturday, September 5, 2009, the Highland Police Department conducted a checkpoint with funding from the State of California Office of Traffic Safety Sobriety/Driver's License Checkpoint Program.

The checkpoint was conducted on Victoria Avenue and Highland Avenue in the city of Highland. A total of 595 vehicles were contacted. Out of those vehicles, one driver was arrested for driving under the influence, 18 were arrested for driving with either a suspended driver's license or none issued and three were arrested for drug possession. In addition, six persons were arrested for outstanding warrants. In all a total of 17 other citations were issued and 12 vehicles were towed.

The purpose of these checkpoints is to apprehend impaired drivers who are operating vehicles while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, to cite unlicensed drivers and to reduce the number of victims killed or injured in alcohol-involved collisions.
