Police Blotter: Highland Sheriff's Station Urges "Situational Awareness" To Thwart Crime

According to a San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department news release, during the months of December, January and February the City of Highland Sheriff’s station has noted an increase in thefts. These crimes include robberies from victims and burglaries from vehicles and residences throughout the city. We would like to encourage citizens to be aware of their surroundings and acknowledge their vulnerabilities.

High dollar valuables in plain sight coupled with a distracted victim lead to an easy boost. Several victims were walking down the street with Apple iPod® earphones in their ears. In several incidents the victim was unable to hear an oncoming attack. These distractions may have hindered the victim’s ability to defend themselves or retreat.

We would also like to encourage all citizens to be aware of leaving valuables inside of their parked vehicles. Valuables left in plain sight are continually targeted throughout the entire city. The Sheriff’s Office would encourage all Highland residents to take all valuables out of parked vehicles.

Situational Awareness is the key. Don’t become a victim.

Anyone with information about these incidents or similar incidents is urged to call Detective Yost at the Highland Police Station (909) 425-9793 or We Tip at 1-(800)-78-CRIME.
