Police Blotter: Suspect Arrested In Walker Street Shooting

According to a San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department news release, an extensive investigation has resulted in the arrest of 25-year-old Ivan Sanchez of Highland on suspicion of murder in the February 1st shooting death of 19-year-old Frank Anthony Galvan.

Sanchez was booked at Central Detention Center and is being held without bail. He is expected to be arraigned on Friday, February 27, 2009 in San Bernardino Superior Court.

On Sunday, February 1, 2009 at approximately 12:50 AM, deputies from the Highland Station responded to the 25500 block of Walker Street after hearing numerous gunshots from the area. Upon arrival deputies found Galvan down in the street suffering from gunshot wounds and requested medical aid but Galvan died at the scene. Deputies subsequently requested the assistance of the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Homicide Detail.

Detectives learned that party goers had gathered at the Walker Street location for a birthday celebration. Several uninvited guests, including Galvan, arrived and "crashed" the party. An altercation ensued and gunshots were fired. Galvan was struck as he attempted to flee and he died at the scene as a result of his injuries. Several people fled the party after the shooting before deputies arrived.

The release stated detectives also believe that other suspects are involved in Galvan’s murder and are urging anyone with information about this crime to contact Detective Brian Zeigler or Sergeant Frank Montanez at (909) 387-3589. Those who wish to remain anonymous can contact WE-TIP at 1-800-78-CRIME.
